We’re two travel-obsessed twenty-somethings from the UK who gave up our old 9 to 5 lifestyle for something much better.

In early 2020 (yep, right at the start of the global COVID-19 pandemic), right off the back of a six-month backpacking trip, we decided to become location-independent and set up our own businesses. The digital nomad lifestyle was calling to us!

We travel slowly, working as we go and really getting to know the places we live. So if you’re looking for location guides that are authentic, insightful and unique, you’ve come to the right place.

“Office” days on Koh Lanta 💻🌴

We woke up super early (with the help of some crazy loud birds outside our room) to get to coworking while it was still quiet.
⠀
Usually got distracted by some kittens along the way.
⠀
In our first accommodation, we could walk to the “office”. In the second, we had a short bike ride. We definitely recommend staying on Long Beach if you want to be close to KoHub.
⠀
We arrived at coworking, made a coffee, and did a big chunk of work before the 9am crowd turned up and the space got busy.
⠀
Had breakfast and drinks delivered to our desk at the click of a button, which felt super luxurious. We often had lunch at coworking too, or headed out to support local businesses.
⠀
Finished work mid-afternoon and headed home or went to the gym – we recommend Luke’s Gym!
⠀
Strolled down to the beach to watch the sunset and read a book.
⠀
Finished our day with some dinner at a local restaurant. We tried to try different spots most nights to liven things up a bit. Read our last post for our favourites!

We’ll be back, Koh Lanta.
⠀
Our five weeks on our favourite Thai island have come to an end.
⠀
Ever since we first visited three years ago, all we’ve wanted to do is come back. Still, we were a bit apprehensive about whether we could stay here for weeks and work at the same time. Well, thanks to a brilliant coworking space, it was possible – just.
⠀
Here’s a few things we realised while on Koh Lanta:
⠀
🏝️Laid-back island life gives you a whole new perspective. We’ll miss waking up to the sound of birds and being able to stroll to the beach in two minutes.
⠀
💻 Relying on a coworking space is not for us (even though KoHub was amazing) – having to go every day felt too much like going to the office.
⠀
🧴 Stock up on toiletries before heading to the island – 7/11 isn’t great.
⠀
🏡 We prefer living on Long Beach to Klong Khong Beach – we’ll stay there the whole time on our next trip.
⠀
🍜 Favourite restaurants: Tamarind, Mr Green, The Angels, Patty’s and Yellow Bistro. El Greco was also amazing for when we craved something different.
⠀
☺️ Thai people are just so so kind and lovely. Honestly, it’s unbelievable. Every interaction leaves you smiling.
⠀
🐚 Khlong Chak Beach and Bamboo Beach towards the south of the island are amazing.
⠀
🏍️ Paying a little more for a better, newer scooter is worthwhile. (We paid 250 baht/day for a really reliable one – maybe a bit pricey but there was a shortage apparently.)
⠀
🤿 We didn’t get bored at all, even though it’s a small island.
⠀
😴 Going out to eat 3x a day is fun at first, but in the end we were dying to whip up a bowl of pasta and not leave the house.
⠀
⏳ 5 weeks was definitely enough, although some digital nomads stay for whole seasons!
⠀
We felt a bit weird about leaving (even though we were ready), but think that’ll be the case everywhere since we have a bit of a complex about being unable to return to Asia.

Still, hopefully Koh Lanta will be a firm fixture on a yearly travel list from now on. We just love it so much!

You can’t keep us away from this lovely little island. We’ve visited twice now, so we have some tips for you:
⠀
🐚 Budget a bit more: Koh Ngai is more expensive than the mainland and other neighbouring islands. It’s so small, so everything is imported for the hotels.
⠀
🐚 Give yourself a break: There’s not much signal or internet on the island, so make the most of your impromptu digital detox. We had 3 internet-free days, which was amazing.
⠀
🐚 Pack minimally: We lived barefoot and in beachwear the entire time we were on the island. You don’t want to be lugging a full suitcase off a rickety longtail boat. They literally drop you off in the sea.
⠀
🐚 Take a warm layer: This island can get a bit breezy and chilly in the evenings.
⠀
🐚 Enjoy the simple life: We totally recommend staying at one of the cheaper hotels on the island (we adore Koh Ngai Seafood) and loving life in a little basic beach hut. Who needs hot water or internet when you’re in tropical paradise?

🐚 Watch the sunrise at least once. You won’t forget it.
⠀
🐚 Take a longtail boat from Koh Lanta if you can (it’s a bit more expensive). The speedboat is a bit hectic!

We are back online!! 💻

For the past year, we've been brainstorming, reconfiguring, redesigning, rebranding and rebuilding our website.

We wanted to create something useful for travellers, backpackers and digital nomads alike.

You can browse our country pages, read our destination-specific articles or find out a little bit more about us and how we work and travel.

We are very pleased to announce that the website is finally back up and running and we are now super motivated to write a bunch more articles.

You might notice some changes from the old site. We've taken down a few of our older posts and we plan to revisit them as we *ahem* revisit those countries.

We've also managed to write a couple of new articles, including a new Life Update, a comprehensive Lisbon City Guide and a Sintra guide. (And there might be more to come in the next few weeks 🤞)

Our most popular articles have also been updated, including our guide to laptop-friendly cafés in Porto and our article about using Upwork as a freelancer.

Our blog is the reason we started this account and it's a big part of our lives and what we do. So it would really mean the world to us if you checked it out!

It's been a while since we've done one of these, and there are some new faces around here, so we thought we'd reintroduce ourselves.

💻 We are two twenty-somethings from the UK who packed in the 9–5 to start freelancing from laptops around the world.

❤️ We met at the University of Southampton and have been together ever since (10 years this year, yikes!). And we're engaged 💍

🎒 In September 2019 we embarked on our first backpacking trip across Southeast Asia, but unfortunately had to come home early due to you-know-what 😷

🛩️ Since C*vid, we've started our new remote-working careers and had extended stays in Portugal, Mexico and Spain.

You kind of forget what fresh air and quiet is like in this city, but Lumphini Park offers a break from the strong smells, exhaust fumes, frying street food and revving engines.

Gran Canaria is probably the warmest place "in Europe" right now! The island enjoys fantastic weather all year round ☀️

There's a huge community of digital nomads on the island. You can join organised events and meetups, or just go for a beer and a chat 🍻

Mountains, beaches, coves, hills, volcanic rocks and plenty of viewpoints to admire them from. Plus, you can enjoy long walks across this beautiful island, including from Las Palmas itself ⛰️

There are so many places to work. Although our apartments here have been really comfortable for working, there are loads of co-working spaces and laptop-friendly cafes to work in ☕

Who doesn't want to live by the beach? Swim and snorkel in the clear, warm water or learn to surf ⛱️
⠀
We know we say this about (mostly) everywhere we go, but we will definitely keep returning to Las Palmas.

Just a 30-minute train journey from Alicante is the city of Elche.

It's a city steeped in history with lots of sights. Along with the beautiful Basilica of Santa Maria, Elche is famous for its huge palm grove, home to over 70,000 palm trees.

Most people come to Las Palmas and stay beachside in Playa de Las Canteras – the opportunity to live 5 mins from the beach is kind of irresistible!

But just a 10-minute bus ride away – or an hour-long walk if you're keen – is the old town of Vegueta.

With sights like the Catedral de Santa Ana, this feels like an entirely different city.
⠀
This area is certainly worth visiting if you've got the time, as it has loads of lovely restaurants and shops.

Las Palmas has completely surprised us and despite being a bit unsure at first, we have fallen in love and don't want to leave.
